MASLOW THEORY MAKES NO SENSE
According to Maslow, when one need has been fulfilled, an individual will move to the next, until he/she achieves self-actualisation. There has been a lot of criticism to his theory and others have come up with additional needs. My goal is not to defend or bring my criticism to an already researched field. Maslow, did point out only 5 levels of needs during his time but with technological advances in society, more needs can of course be added. I will just show how the theory can be used for an organisation to maintain operational risk.
All this sound very simple to implement but we all know that it is not so, because nothing is a straight in life. Different people have different needs and those needs may vary depending on the course of one’s life. Indeed, all roads lead to Rome, some people may arrive faster, others slower, but others may never arrive for unforeseen circumstances or simply because they no longer want to reach Rome and happy to stay where they are. This is to say, that not all people want or will achieve self-actualisation. Some people will work through their needs and once a need is fulfilled, they move on to the next, others may just be happy with a bit of here and there.
All this to conclude that an organisation should be very attentive to its employees, making sure that they have a nice environment, paid decently and the appropriate management style to ensure open working relationship and transparency. Cyber attacks are a common occurrence these days and organisations have to take everything into consideration. Therefore, to ensure the control of operational risks, an organisation must create an environment where it is the best place to work!. I doubt, any organisation would like to have people coming to work, hating what they do, where management is incompetent and where negative attitudes englobe the workplace.
In order to ensure maximum operational opportunity, an organisation needs to focus on creating good business practices, meet the social and financial needs of the employees, as well as ensuring proper career and personal development.
More than ever Maslow Theory of Motivation has its place in every organisations that management cannot ignore!
